Rent Limitations?

Rent is the method of payment given by the tenant to the landlord for rental of the premises. Rent may be for money, or in the case of agricultural leases, for a percentage of the crops or their proceeds. Rent which is unconscionably high or low may not be enforced by the courts. In the absence of an agreement for the amount of rent, the fair rental value of the property will be imposed by the courts. In the case of residential tenancies, you may want to check with the local government to see if rent control is in place. State law may also require a certain passage of time before rent is increased or written notice before a rental increase.
